Risky Business

The cruise industry has been hit hard this week, an on-board fire on the Star Princess, resulted it the death of one passenger and eleven others injured, whilst in Chile, twelve passengers from Celebrity Cruises, Millennium ship were killed in a coach accident.

The accident involved an unlicensed coach but highlights the importance of carrying out risk assessments for licensed suppliers, particularly in those countries where road safety is not as well regulated as in other parts of the world.

If you choose not to run excursions because safety is compromised, don’t forget that as part of your risk assessment you should warn customers of the potential hazards particularly in those places where roads are notoriously dangerous - in this way you ensure that you have carried out a duty of care to your customers.
