Risky Business
The cruise industry has been hit hard
this week, an on-board fire on the Star Princess, resulted
it the death of one passenger and eleven others injured,
whilst in Chile, twelve passengers from Celebrity Cruises,
Millennium ship were killed in a coach accident.
The accident involved an unlicensed
coach but highlights the importance of carrying out risk
assessments for licensed suppliers, particularly in those
countries where road safety is not as well regulated as in
other parts of the world.
If you choose not to run excursions
because safety is compromised, don’t forget that as part of
your risk assessment you should warn customers of the
potential hazards particularly in those places where roads
are notoriously dangerous - in this way you ensure that you
have carried out a duty of care to your customers.

Travelsafe goes multilingual
Our overseas Health & Safety website
Travelsafe is now available in Spanish, Portuguese, French
and German.
Travelsafe has been developed to
provide the industry with a valuable H&S resource. Everyone
has to check and monitor the H&S status of the overseas
accommodation they use and everyone has to pay for it – so
why not share the information and the costs?
Travelsafe is a service which provides
all types of travel arrangers with:
-
an effective and affordable means
of auditing properties, covering all elements covered by
current EU legislation
-
a central H&S resource which lists
the H&S status of all Travelsafe audited accommodation.
There is good reason to share the
results of Travelsafe audits and no competitive advantage to
be gained by withholding this information.
We aim with Travelsafe to create a
valuable resource which travel arrangers can use to look up
the H&S status of a property. If a property is not listed,
travel arrangers can implement a self assessment audit which
produces an immediate rating.
