  People Development

Why develop your people?

Our educational process is not geared around teaching effective communication, management, relationship and many other life skills. For most of us we learn on the job, often making expensive mistakes on the way.

In the work environment, this is further compounded by people with good technical skills being promoted into management positions, where perhaps they lack the new skills required to manage people.

Further exacerbation is added by today's every faster pace of work and increasing demands placed on your people.

By developing your people, increased self awareness and knowledge can be gained, enhancing performance and increasing productivity.

Be warned though, there are no quick fixes Traits that have developed over many years wont be changed overnight. Also change can only happen if the person is willing to do so.

How to develop people:

  • Develop a performance based culture, using SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time framed) objectives to people to see how they are performing against set measures
  • Have regular progress reviews to consolidate learning and plan next steps
  • Feedback from others both good and not so good
  • Conduct training courses
  • Encourage reading of relevant books
  • Consider a coaching programme to help your managers become more effective
  • Train your managers around coaching techniques
  • Consider an EAP programme to help with more serious issues

The Benefits:

  • Happier people
  • Increased productivity
  • Reduced staff turn-over
